THE KEY POINT
Compare the type of balance, not just the number displayed beside it.
01
What a Steam Market sale gives you
The Community Market FAQ says its sales and purchases use Steam Wallet funds. Those funds cannot be withdrawn to a bank account, transferred to a third-party account or moved to another Steam account.
A balance displayed by a separate service is governed by that service’s own terms. It is not the same balance as your Steam Wallet.
02
Make the comparison explicit
- What is the balance called: Wallet funds, site credit or a payable amount?
- What can the balance actually be used for?
- Which fees or minimums are disclosed?
- Which account or company is responsible for the balance?
03
Keep statements tied to the right service
Record a sale, its balance type and the associated receipt together. Avoid combining a Steam Market price, a third-party quote and a final amount as though they were interchangeable.
For a disputed credit, give support the original transaction reference and the wording of the amount shown. This guide explains the distinction; it does not recommend a sale or a cashout provider.
