THE KEY POINT
An item arriving in your inventory does not always mean it can immediately be traded again.
01
What the current CS2 rule means
Steam’s Trade Protection documentation states that CS2 items received through a trade are delivered immediately, then protected for seven days. During that period they cannot be transferred, modified or consumed. This is different from trade escrow, where delivery is delayed.
The same documentation identifies CS2 as the currently supported game. Do not apply this rule automatically to Rust, TF2 or another inventory.
02
Understand reversal before using it
Steam says reversing protected trades affects all eligible protected trades from the previous seven days and imposes a 30-day trading and Community Market restriction on the account initiating the reversal. It is not a way to cancel a single trade you regret.
If access to your account may be compromised, use Steam Support before making another trade. This page does not initiate a reversal.
03
Make a short record of the issue
- Item name, game and the exact message shown in its details.
- When the trade was accepted, including your time zone.
- Whether the item is present in Steam or missing only on another website.
- A screenshot of the restriction, with account secrets removed.
BEFORE YOU CONTINUE
Quick checklist
- Read the item’s own status in Steam.
- Separate an item restriction from a website’s processing status.
- Save the relevant trade reference before contacting support.
