THE KEY POINT
A threatening chat message is not a Steam Support case.
01
Recognize the false-report story
Valve’s Scam FAQ identifies messages claiming that your account was accidentally or falsely reported as a scam introduction. These messages can try to send you to a supposed administrator, a different chat service or a payment request.
A profile photo, convincing badge, screenshot or friendly account name does not make the claim official.
02
Verify the issue independently
- Open Steam Support through the address you already know.
- Look for the issue in your own account instead of following the message’s link.
- Do not hand over an item, recovery code or payment to prove your identity in a chat.
- Save the message and profile reference if you want to report the incident.
03
Respond to the situation, not the pressure
If nothing has been shared, stop the conversation and use the service’s reporting controls. If you entered credentials or approved an unexpected login, treat it as an account-security problem and move to the recovery guide.
A useful report explains what happened, where the request arrived and what you did. It does not require a public argument with the sender or publication of your account details.
BEFORE YOU CONTINUE
